T

his week takes us back to nature with treks, water-borne wildlife, mountaineering and more. After a dip in the hot springs at Crystal Crane host Alistair Divall takes us mountaineering at Smith Rock State Park and llama trekking in the foothills of the Cascade mountains.

He boards a kayak at Scappoose Bay Marine Park, then heads to Marquam Hill to view Portland from the Aerial Tram. After travelling downtown to the Hotel Deluxe we drive East to Mount Hood and find a haven for family skiers and pro's alike. After a stop at Eugene in Oregons Willamette Valley we end this visit at the Sokol Blosser winery where strong green values translate into crisp whites and full bodied reds.

Travel Oregon Logoregon has been a 60 year forerunner in sustainable development and the first state to pass recycling laws. Volunteers clean the beaches and parks throughout the year. Oregon is the leader in clean energies.

Travel the Columbia River Gorge and you will see the wind turbines dotting the hillsides above the Columbia River or poplar tree farms used in the paper pulp industry to save our forests. Ride the Portland Tram from the South Waterfront Terminal to OHSU Center for Health and Healing. Traveling at 22 miles per hour, the tram cabin rises 500 feet for the three-minute trip. Reduce your carbon footprint by staying at the renovated Hotel DeLuxe to enjoy the glamour of old Hollywood. During your stay use the Max to go to downtown shopping or to Forest Park for a nature experience in an urban setting. It seems kind of hard to imagine an abundance of wildlife (more than 112 bird and 62 mammal species) in Forest Park. The park also serves as a natural air purifier, water collector, and erosion controller minutes from downtown Portland. Hopworks Urban Brewery is the only brewery powered by 100% renewable energy. It is Portland’s first eco-brewpub offering all organic handcrafted beers, fresh local ingredients, and a sustainable building with a relaxed and casual atmosphere. Hike, bike, walk, or take the Max become a sustainable tourist.

You will enjoy environmental friendly tourism throughout Oregon. Leave the motor behind and enjoy a kayak trip in the wetlands and bay viewing wildlife and scenic beauty while you dip your oar into the water. Taste organic certified wines at Sokol Blosser Winery. It is also certified Salmon Safe vineyard and 50% biodiesel is used in their farm tractors. The underground barrel cellar has been Green certified. Enjoy the scenic beauty of Smith Rock and watch international rock climbers practicing their craft. Hiking trails offer spectacular views of Central Oregon. Visualize eating by the campfire after your have hiked with a llama packing your gear for camp. Halligan Ranch Llama Adventures offers a variety of llama pack trips to the Three Sisters, Mt Jefferson and the Steen’s Mountain Wilderness area. Go off the beaten path to Harney County to Crystal Crane Hot Springs. Out in the middle of the high desert enjoy the simple, rustic, and clean in your personal geothermal mineral water oasis. You won’t find traffic, crowds, or big cities in this part of Oregon. You will be amazed as you listen to the quiet. Tu Tu’ Tun Lodge was built on a former Native American encampment. It is one of those special places along the Rogue River in the Southern Oregon coast where you can order in room massages to wind down from a day filled with sightseeing.
